School Board Member Resigns; Interviews Expected in Early October
At a special meeting held on Sept. 16, 2019, the Fox Chapel Area School Board accepted, with regret, the resignation of School Board Treasurer Bob Mauro. Interviews to fill Mr. Mauro's open seat in Region III are expected to be held in early October. More details will be forthcoming. We thank Mr. Mauro for almost a decade of distinguished service to the Fox Chapel Area School District and its students.
Below is a copy of his resignation letter.

I am writing this letter for two reasons. First, please consider this letter to be my formal resignation from the Fox Chapel Area School Board (the "Board"), effective today, September 12, 2019. Second, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you, in an abbreviated fashion, my reasons for resigning.
I was fortunate enough to be appointed to the Board in 2008. The first almost ten (10) years of my tenure were, with very minor exceptions, extraordinarily enjoyable and marked by collegiality and cooperation between the Board, the Administration and the District's parents. We accomplished quite a bit. The District's performance, judged by almost any criteria, continually improved.
All of that changed starting in January, 2018. The cooperation and collegiality that existed between all Board members and the public no longer exists. Now we experience often contentious and unproductive Board meetings that are fostered by endless and often inaccurate Facebook postings.
The disharmony and tension which has continued to increase was highlighted during the primary elections. It now appears to me that political party endorsements and social media comments are more important than qualifications and experience when electing Board members. The Board has unfortunately become politicized. I am of the belief that politics should never be more important than doing what is best for our students. After ten (10) years on the Board, I have no desire to be involved in political debates or to be engaged in social media commentary.
It has been my distinct pleasure to have served on the Board with you and the many other qualified and competent directors and administrators. I wish the other Board members and the entire Administration all the best in the coming years.
