Fox Chapel Area High School senior Joey Wang was chosen for the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) 2020 All-National Honor Ensembles (ANHE) Concert Band event. Joey, a clarinet player, joined 120 band students from across the United States and military base schools overseas who are considered to be the “best of the best” in a virtual event January 7 and 8, 2021. The first-ever ANHE Concert Band virtual event included rehearsals with Dr. Rodney Dorsey from Indiana University Bloomington, as well as workshops with renowned clinicians.
In addition to the concert band, the other NAfME honor ensembles included a symphony orchestra, a mixed choir, a guitar ensemble, a jazz ensemble, and a modern band. Each ensemble created a final, recorded performance that will be premiered during NAfME’s Music in our Schools Month in March 2021.
Joey was chosen for this national honor by audition and based on his selection to the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) All-State Band in 2020.
