Meet Evan Rumble

A new face at O'Hara and Kerr elementary schools this year is Evan Rumble, who teaches art.

Before arriving at Fox Chapel Area, Mr. Rumble taught visual arts in Pittsburgh Public Schools, as well as visual arts and ceramics in the Washougal School District in Washougal, Washington.

We asked Mr. Rumble a few questions to get to know him better.

What has been your favorite part about Fox Chapel Area so far?

I’m loving how beautiful my morning commute is with the sunrise and hillsides. I grew up in a rural area, so it's nice to be out of the city sometimes. And it's not very far!

Who was your favorite teacher growing up, and why?

This is a tough question. My favorite teacher growing up was probably Ms. Lightfoot, because she had her iguana walk around the classroom. She taught seventh-grade science, and I’ve always loved science and reptiles.

Evan Rumble What led you to a career in education?

I wanted to have a career where I helped people, didn’t have to sit behind a desk, and didn’t get bored. Teaching art definitely fulfills all of those things. I decided that I wanted to be an art teacher when I was 16, and I guess I saw that through. I almost majored in geology, though. That would have been a whole different story!

Do you have a favorite cafeteria food?

Do they still make the burrito chimichangas?

On the weekends, what can you be found doing?

I have an art studio in Lawrenceville, so I’m usually there these days. However, I also snowboard, hike, and fly fish.

What's one thing that people would be surprised to know about you?

I grew up on a sheep farm in southwest Washington state.

What's your favorite vacation destination?

What three things are always in your refrigerator?

Vegan butter, real maple syrup, and eggs

What's the one thing you can't live without?

Two things: summer and my rowing machine

If you could have anyone narrate your life, who would it be?

David Attenborough
