Cal U BotsIQ Scholarship

Thomas Grandizio

Fox Chapel Area High School senior Thomas Grandizio is this year’s recipient of the California University of Pennsylvania (CUP) BotsIQ Scholarship, which is renewable up to a total of $20,000 dollars over four years at CUP. Thomas intends to major in Mechatronics Engineering Technology and plans to continue to build battle bots on the university’s BotsIQ team.

“It was pretty wild,” Thomas said about getting the call from Cal. “I’m really excited and grateful. When I told my mom, I have never seen her so excited. This would not be possible without Mr. (Ken) Grimm, my robotics teacher and coach. He always makes me work hard and taught me techniques for solving problems. He made me complete the scholarship application. I’m grateful for his persistence.”

Thomas will receive his award at the Fox Chapel Area High School Senior Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, in the high school auditorium at 7 p.m. The award will be given by Michel Conklin, the executive director of Southwestern Pennsylvania (SWPA) BotsIQ.
