FCASD Again Named One of the Best Communities for Music Education
The Fox Chapel Area School District has been named among the 2020 Best Communities for Music Education. This is the ninth year in a row that the district received this prestigious designation. Fox Chapel Area is one of 115 in the state of Pennsylvania and one of 754 school districts in the nation chosen for this honor that recognizes outstanding commitment to music education.
The districts were selected through a program sponsored by the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation, which recognizes outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders who have made music education part of a well-rounded education. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.
To qualify for the Best Communities for Music Education designation, Fox Chapel Area music teachers answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for the music program. Research into music education continues to demonstrate educational/cognitive and social skill benefits for children who make music.
The NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit that promotes and supports music education and music making for people of all ages and abilities.
