Summer Meal Information

Here are some local food options that are available to students in need during the summer months.

• The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is offering free meals throughout the summer (Monday through Friday) for students ages 18 and younger. Breakfast will be served from 9-10 a.m., and lunch is served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Students may eat there, or pick up grab-and-go meals. The meals will be served (and can also be picked up) at the Sharpsburg Family Worship Center Activities Building at 610 Clay St., Sharpsburg. Registration is not required. Meals will be served from June 10 through August 16. Additionally, Backpack for Hunger food bags will be available at this same location for students to take home for evenings and weekends.

• The local Backpack for Hunger program will also distribute bags of food for district children 18 and younger at Dorseyville Middle School this summer. Food can be picked up June 11 through August 21, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations are not necessary. Dorseyville Middle School is located at 3732 Saxonburg Boulevard in Indiana Township.

• The Blawnox Community Food Pantry has extended evening hours in the summer for anyone in need, on June 25 and July 23 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. It will also be open June 28 and July 26 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The pantry is located at the Blawnox Municipal Building at 376 Freeport Road.
