FCAHS Students to Compete at State-Level TSA Conference
Several Fox Chapel Area High School students recently qualified to compete in the Pennsylvania Technology Student Association (TSA) State Leadership Conference. The students qualified for states at the TSA Regions 1 and 6 Leadership Conference which was held January 14, 2015, at the Pittsburgh Technical Institute in Oakdale, Pennsylvania. The following 21 Fox Chapel Area High School students won first places in the regional competition: seniors Zoe Aridor, Gerry Chen (two first places), Andrew Coco, Deepika Sarma, Kanika Sarma, and Rachel Szabo; juniors Daniel Beluk, Jessica Hertzberg (three first places), Joseph Klaas, Joshua Manuel (two first places), Stephen Polcyn (two first places), Alisa Quemado (two first places), Konrad Urban, Elaine Yates (two first places), and Bailey Yousem; sophomores Austin Fisher, Yelim Lee, Jonathan Monroe (three first places), Juliette Naugle, and Jeremy Rodrigues; and freshman Sarthak Navjivan. These 10 students won second places in the regional competition: seniors Taylor Edwards, Katherine Johnston (two second places), and Christopher Ream; juniors Jacob Caruso and Manasa Thada; sophomores Moira McCormick, Tanvi Meringenti, Ayan Sinha, and Elizabeth Woodwell; and freshman Afaf Nabeeha. These nine students won third places in the regional competition: seniors Katherine Johnston and Christopher Ream; juniors Jacob Caruso, Ishan Khatri, Sean Scott, and Jacob Smith; sophomores Waleed Tariq and Terrance Whitehead; and freshman Rohit Nandakumar. The following eight Fox Chapel Area High School students also qualified for the state competition: seniors Alison Arnone and Joshua Dorn; sophomores Samantha Cider, Donovan Gorgas, and Mackenzie Myers; and freshmen Karissa Becer, Shania Khatri, and Rebekah Polcyn.
The regional conference offered more than 31 state-qualifying events. It culminated with an awards presentation and closing ceremonies at which time many students were recognized for their achievements. The TSA Regions 1 and 6 Leadership Conference is the first of three levels of competitive conferences. The next level of competition is the Pennsylvania TSA State Leadership Conference which will be held April 15-18 at the Seven Springs Conference Center. The third level is the National TSA Leadership Conference which will be held June 28-July 2 near Dallas, Texas.
