HS Students Chosen for Honors Orchestras

Several Fox Chapel Area High School students were selected to perform with prestigious Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) orchestras.

•2019 PMEA All-State Orchestra – Two students were selected by audition to perform with the prestigious 2019 PMEA All-State Orchestra. The students chosen were juniors Noah Hertzman and Chaehyun “Cuna” Kim. The PMEA All-State Orchestra included approximately 120 of the best student-musicians from across the state of Pennsylvania. The All-State Festival was held in conjunction with the PMEA Annual In-Service Conference April 3-7 in Pittsburgh, and culminated with a concert on April 6.

•2019 PMEA Western Region State Orchestra – Six students were selected by audition to perform with the 2019 PMEA Western Region State Orchestra. The students are senior Theresa Heidenreich; juniors Noah Hertzman, Chaehyun “Cuna” Kim, Zeynep Ozkaya, and Jacob Rendall; and sophomore Alexandria Morton. The Western Region State Orchestra included students from the western half of Pennsylvania. Approximately 120 students were selected for the orchestra and the festival was held at Hollidaysburg Area High School February 21-23. A concert was performed on February 23.

•2019 PMEA District 1 Orchestra – Eleven Fox Chapel Area High School students were selected by application to perform with the PMEA District 1 Orchestra. The orchestra was comprised of a select group of student-musicians from across the Pittsburgh area. The students chosen were seniors Ruth Hartmann, Megan Hayes, Theresa Heidenreich, and Alexander Perez; juniors Noah Hertzman, Chaehyun “Cuna” Kim, Zeynep Ozkaya, Jacob Rendall, and Sophia Williams; and sophomores Alexandria Morton and Cecilia Rike. A total of 150 students were selected to participate in the District 1 Orchestra Festival which was held at North Allegheny Senior High School January 10-12. A public performance was held January 12.

•2018 PMEA Honors Orchestra – Eighteen Fox Chapel Area High School students were selected by audition participate in the 2018 PMEA District 1 Honors String Orchestra. The students chosen were seniors Ruth Hartmann and Zachary Lakkis; juniors Amelia Bothe, Noah Hertzman, Chaehyun “Cuna” Kim, Zeynep Ozkaya, Sydney Ulanowicz, and Sophia Williams; sophomores Alexandria Morton and Cecilia Rike; and freshmen Claire Hamilton, Jonah Hertzman, Nathaniel Mueller, Samuel Slember, Aidan Squire, Kaylee Uribe, Katherine Voigt, and Annie Yonas. The orchestra was comprised of 100 students from across the greater Pittsburgh area. The students rehearsed November 17 and 18 and performed a concert November 18 at Fox Chapel Area High School.
