Student Named Winner in Princeton Prize
Fox Chapel Area High School junior William Generett has been named a Certificate of Accomplishment winner in the Princeton Prize in Race Relations. The award, sponsored by Princeton University, recognizes students in grades 9-12 from across the nation who have had a significant and positive effect on race relations in their schools or communities through their volunteer efforts. Recipients have stood up to intolerance, worked toward greater inclusivity, and encouraged understanding and harmony in their communities.
According to an email from Jo Recht, the chair of the PAAWP (the Princeton alumni group in Western Pennsylvania), William is being recognized for his “excellent work in helping to promote harmony, understanding, and respect among people of different races through the creation of a Black Student Union at Fox Chapel High School.”
Local winners will be honored at the annual Pittsburgh region dinner of the Princeton Prize in Race Relations Committee of PAAWP in May. This year, more than 100 winners were selected from 28 regions from across the United States.
