Students Place at UVA Model UN Competition
Six Fox Chapel Area High School students won awards at the 38th Annual University of Virginia High School Model United Nations (VAMUN) Conference. Junior Sina Shaikh and sophomore Jackson Romero both won Best Delegate (equivalent to first place) awards; juniors Rajeev Godse and Aaron Santilli both won Honorable Mentions (equivalent to third place); and the team of juniors Hanna Chen and Henry Jacques were given a Verbal Commendation (equivalent to fourth place).
Approximately 1,100 students from 50 high schools from seven states and the District of Columbia participated in the University of Virginia High School Model UN Conference. The conference was held November 16-18, 2018, at the University of Virginia.
The purpose of the Model UN conferences is to enable students to role-play and simulate the countries in the United Nations. As a part of the conferences, students debate and try to solve global problems from the perspectives of other countries.
