Students Win Awards at Pitt Model UN Conference

Several Fox Chapel Area High School students recently won awards at the Annual University of Pittsburgh High School Model United Nations (UN) Conference. Senior Jonah Green and juniors Hanna Chen, Boomba Nishikawa, and Aaron Santilli won Excellence in Ethics awards; juniors Gwendolyn Cullen, Rajeev Godse, Zeynep Ozkaya, Sina Shaikh, Helene Tracey, Angelique Uku, and Felix Veser won Excellence in Persuasion awards; juniors Shando Naini and Anzu Sekikawa and sophomore Jackson Romero won Honorable Mentions. Additionally, the team of senior Jonah Green; juniors Hanna Chen, Noah Hertzman, Shando Naini, Boomba Nishikawa, Aaron Santilli, Anzu Sekikawa, Sina Shaikh, and Felix Veser; and freshmen Janise Kim, Zoe Lakkis, Nathaniel Mueller, and Siddharth Yende were awarded second place in the large delegation category.

Approximately 450 students from 25 high schools from Western Pennsylvania competed at the 22nd Annual University of Pittsburgh High School Model UN Conference. The conference was held November 13 at the University of Pittsburgh.

The purpose of the Model UN conference is to enable students to role-play and simulate the countries in the United Nations. As a part of the conference, students debate and try to solve global problems from the perspectives of other countries.
