Israeli Artist to Visit Middle & High Schools

Israeli artist Telma Schultz will be visiting Dorseyville Middle School and Fox Chapel Area High School students on Monday, December 12, 2016.

Schultz will visit with the middle school students from 8:30-10:30 a.m. At Dorseyville, she will conduct a workshop for 20 sixth-eighth grade students on creating art with recycled and found materials with portraiture as the artistic focus. The presentation and discussion of the artist’s creative process will encourage students to tap into their creative thinking and to draw inspiration from unexpected materials to create their own unique self-portraits.

Schultz will then be at the high school from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. There she will visit with 20 ninth-twelfth grade students in the ceramics and fibers class where she will conduct a unit on fabrics. She will teach the students techniques with fabrics to create something personalized from old T-shirts.

Schultz is from the Israel Museum in Jerusalem where she is the associate curator of the Feinstein Recycling Room. She creates artworks and functional items using recycled paper, cardboard, metal, and more. Her visit is being sponsored by Classrooms Without Borders. Classrooms Without Borders is a nonprofit educational organization founded in 2011 in association with the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh. The organization is a premier provider of experiential professional development for teachers through study seminars that take place outside of the classroom.
