Students to Compete at State-Level TSA Conference
Several Fox Chapel Area High School students recently qualified to compete in the Pennsylvania Technology Student Association (TSA) State Leadership Conference. The students qualified for states at the TSA Regions 1 and 6 Leadership Conference which was held January 28, 2016, at California University of Pennsylvania. The following six Fox Chapel Area High School students won first places in the regional competition: seniors Joshua Manuel, Maya McCann, Alisa Quemado, and Elaine Yates; junior Jeremy Rodrigues; and sophomore Jorgen Wu. These students won second places in the regional competition: seniors Jacob Caruso, John Gurklis, Jessica Hertzberg, Jacob Smith, and Elaine Yates; juniors Austin Fisher, Mackenzie Myers, and Waleed Tariq; sophomores Karissa Becer, Won Ho Kang, Sarthak Navjivan (three second places), and Sai Yarlagadda; and freshmen Arnav Gupta and Elizabeth Uber (two second places). Third place regional winners were: seniors Daniel Beluk and Joseph Klaas; juniors Erik Bothe, Samantha Cider, Adam Cook, Won Jun Kang, Daniel Markovitz, and Sean McCoy; sophomores Andrew Auth, Elizabeth Mountz, and Ruopeng Wang; and freshman Nishika Mohnot. The following 11 Fox Chapel Area High School students also qualified for the state competition: seniors Ishan Khatri, Stephen Polcyn, Sreeroopa Som, and Konrad Urban; juniors Kevin Kilmer and Jonathan Monroe; sophomores Anita Bargaje and Nikita Bargaje; and freshmen Michael Braham, Sanjana Harish, and Jonathan Hopkins.
The regional conference offered more than 31 state-qualifying events. It culminated with an awards presentation and closing ceremonies at which time many students were recognized for their achievements. The TSA Regions 1 and 6 Leadership Conference is the first of three levels of competitive conferences. The next level of competition is the Pennsylvania TSA State Leadership Conference which will be held April 13-16 at Seven Springs Resort. The third level is the National TSA Leadership Conference which will be held June 28-July 2 in Nashville.
