High School Students Named Finalists in Science Competition
A team of Fox Chapel Area High School students were recently named finalists in the preliminary regional rounds of the 25th Annual Southwestern PA Science Bowl. The team members were senior Konrad Urban and juniors Rohan Chalasani, Mihir Garimella, Suvir Mirchandani, and Houruiyang Zong. The preliminary regional Southwestern PA Science Bowl was held at the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) South Campus in West Mifflin on February 20, 2016. This competition included 57 teams of students from 37 school districts and was open to students from several counties across Southwestern Pennsylvania. The competition is sponsored by the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) in South Park.
The competition has a fast-paced question-and-answer format. Topics include a range of science disciplines including biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, energy, and math.
The regional finals will be held at the NETL on March 9. The winner of the March 9 competition will earn a spot in the national finals which will be held April 28-May 2 in Washington, D.C.
