DMS Choirs Win Awards

The Dorseyville Middle School (DMS) Girls Chamber Chorus and the DMS FoxTones performed both independently and together as the DMS Mixed Choir at a Music in the Parks Festival in Maryland. The Mixed Choir took first place and was rated “Excellent,” the second highest rating. The DMS Girls Chamber Chorus also placed first, earned the highest rating of “Superior,” and received the best Overall Jr. High/Middle School Choir award. The DMS FoxTones earned a first place and a rating of “Superior.” Additionally, the DMS groups were the only choirs, in both the middle school and high school divisions, to receive “Superior” ratings. The Music in the Parks Festival was held May 10 and 11, 2019, at Blake High School in Silver Spring, Maryland, with the awards ceremony at Six Flags America Baltimore/Washington, DC in Bowie, Maryland. Middle school and high school students from Maryland, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Virginia participated in the festival.

The Dorseyville Middle School Girls Chamber Chorus includes 30 girls in sixth through eighth grades; the FoxTones includes 20 boys in grades six through eight; and the Mixed Choir (made up of the Girls Chamber Chorus and the FoxTones) includes 50 boys and girls in grades six through eight. The choirs are under the direction of teacher Amy Beresik.
