DMS Orchestras Win First-Place Awards
The Dorseyville Middle School Sinfonia and Philharmonic orchestras recently placed at a Music in the Parks Festival. The Philharmonic placed first in its division with a “Superior” rating. The Sinfonia also placed first in its division with a “Superior” rating, won first place overall orchestra, and received the highest scores of all instrumental ensembles (concert bands, jazz bands, and orchestras in both the middle school and high school divisions). The orchestras received trophies for their winning performances.
The Music in the Parks Festival was held May 4, 2018, in Hershey, Pennsylvania. A total of 16 ensembles from schools from several different states competed.
The Dorseyville Middle School Philharmonic Orchestra includes 48 students and the Sinfonia Orchestra includes 21 students, all in grades six, seven, and eight. The orchestras are under the direction of teacher Jeff Bryer.
