FCEA Collects Blankets to Help Others
Members of the Fox Chapel Area Educators Association (FCEA) recently collected more than 165 new and gently used blankets as part of their ongoing efforts to help others. The association collected the blankets over the last two weeks as part of its endeavors to reach out beyond the Fox Chapel Area Schools and into the communities. The blankets are being donated to Aspinwall residents Nancy and Ralph Heil who venture out every Monday evening to personally deliver blankets to the homeless in the greater Pittsburgh area. The FCEA feels that this underpublicized charity is very worthwhile and decided to conduct a blanket collection to assist the Heils.
According to Fairview Elementary School teacher and FCEA President-Elect, Lisa Lang, reaching out to serve others in the community is a very important lesson for everyone. “We realize it isn’t only necessary to educate the students academically, so we choose these types of projects to not only give back to the community, but to model stewardship for our students.”
The members of the FCEA have made it a priority to help others. In the past, they have conducted food, book, and clothing drives that benefit the Fox Chapel Area School District community and beyond.
The FCEA has 381 members and includes teachers, librarians, nurses, and school counselors.
