Weekly Updates

  • December 2, 2020

    Dear Fox Chapel Area Family,

I want to open my weekly communication by confirming that, as planned, students in the Fox Chapel Area School District will return for in-person instruction beginning Monday, December 7. At this time, elementary schools will remain in a five-day in-person instructional model, and Dorseyville Middle School and Fox Chapel Area High School will continue in the hybrid instructional model. We will continue to offer the FCA Virtual: Blended Learning, FCA Virtual: Asynchronous Learning, and the FCAO instructional models as well.

To return to in-person instruction, the district will follow the updated face coverings mandate from the Pennsylvania Department of Health and will continue to work in consultation with the Allegheny County Health Department to use recommendations for responding to cases of COVID-19 in schools and monitoring COVID-19 cases over a 14-day period in each building.

In the Fox Chapel Area School District, we currently have 10 active cases of COVID-19, and the district has had a total of 42 cases since the beginning of the school year. Additional information about COVID-19 cases at Fox Chapel Area can be found here

We hope to not have to move to fully virtual learning for students in any of our schools in the future. We will continue to closely monitor conditions in each of our school buildings in case we need to quickly shift instructional models in a particular school. In addition to the number and context of COVID-19 cases, the district may also have to move a school or the district to remote learning due to other variables, including teacher absences/lack of substitutes; a lack of bus drivers; an inability to provide food due to cafeteria employee absences; lack of custodians; lack of school nurses; and directives from local, state, or federal authorities.

We know that schools are among the safest places for our students at this time and that the COVID-19 cases in our district do not seem to be a result of transmission in our buildings. We hope that parents and guardians will continue to do their part in helping to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 so that we can continue to offer in-person instruction. Please remember to wear a mask, frequently wash or sanitize your hands, maintain physical distance from others, limit interactions with those outside of your household, and avoid unnecessary interactions in the community. Together, we can make a difference for our students and for the safety of the entire school community.

Daily Health Screening for Students

  • The health and safety of our students and staff are our highest priority. In addition to the protective measures we will be taking when students return to school, we will use a health screening tool for daily verification of student health. Please familiarize yourself with the expectations, protocols, and procedures for the required daily COVID-19 health screening. You must do this for both in-person and online days. Please click on the images below for more information.
