About the Elementary Program
FCAO is pleased to announce the expansion of the FCAO program to K-5 for the 2019-2020 school year. The elementary curriculum utilizes the Edgenuity course platform, the same platform used by FCAO 6-12. Elementary FCAO is fully asynchronous, so families can work on their schoolwork when it best suits their schedule.
The lessons include a role for the parent/guardian, referred to as the “learning coach." The learning coach’s role in each lesson is clearly defined in the curriculum. Note that a parent or guardian is required to be in the home during school hours.
The courses include workbooks for pencil-and-paper work. Offline activities such as labs and other activities also are part of the online courses. The labs are completed using commonly available household items with the assistance of the learning coach. Weekly, the student and parent will turn in written work to the online teacher (either scanned and emailed, or dropped off at the building). The online teachers are Fox Chapel Area teachers, available for in-person, phone, email, or video chat meetings.
FCAO classes run on a variety of devices. Computer equipment, including internet access, is available for FCAO students.
