Daniel E. Lentz, Ph.D.
Program Principal, Fox Chapel Area High School
Since 2009, Daniel E. Lentz, Ph.D., has served as a program principal at Fox Chapel Area High School. In this role, Dr. Lentz has many administrative duties within the high school including coordination of the 9th and 10th grade programs, middle school to high school transition, high school science and business departments, teacher professional development, and many others. During this time, Fox Chapel Area High School has been recognized annually by the Pittsburgh Business Times as one of the highest performing high schools in western Pennsylvania, has received the Silver Medal awards from U.S. News and World Report, and has been recognized by Newsweek as a National Silver Award winner.
Previously, Dr. Lentz was the founding principal of the Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy for the Pittsburgh Public Schools. During his tenure there, he helped to lay the foundation for a new and innovative magnet school focused on the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) areas for the Pittsburgh Public Schools.
Additionally, he served in multiple roles as an administrator at Freedom Area School District including interim principal, assistant principal, director of athletics, and alternative education coordinator. While there, Freedom Area High School attained the highest overall PSSA scores in Beaver County and was recognized by the Pittsburgh Business Times as the Most Improved School District.
Dr. Lentz also served as assistant principal at South Fayette Township High School in McDonald, Pennsylvania, and has spent 13 years in the classroom as a biology and human anatomy teacher in multiple districts in Pennsylvania and Missouri.
Dr. Lentz earned his doctorate degree in educational management and leadership from Robert Morris University, in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. He also holds a master's degree in administration and supervision from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri and a bachelor's degree in biology from Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Presently, Dr. Lentz is the co-director of the Northern Area Principals Association and has worked as a consultant with multiple districts in the Pittsburgh area. He is currently a member of the both the National and Pennsylvania Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, as well as the National and Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals associations.
