The Western Pennsylvania Summer STEMM Academy (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Medicine) is a three-week summer program for rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with an interest in STEMM pathways or a desire to learn more about them.
Students will have the opportunity to actively learn through interactions with doctors, professors, and business professionals in the STEMM-related fields through guest speakers, activities, and field explorations to universities, research labs, and STEMM-related businesses. In addition, Level II students will learn through extensive research projects in their intended STEMM career pathway and a final presentation of findings.
The goals of STEMM are to:
- Provide students with a deeper understanding of STEMM pathways and careers.
- Strengthen partnerships between businesses, medical and educational institutions and their future employees.
- Encourage and foster the students’ higher order thinking through inquiry-based learning.
