The Abitibi recycling bins have been moved to the back of the parking lot to allow more space for both bins and to create a space for the snow plows during the winter. We have also placed a bin in each of our building wings (4) to help us collect more paper for recycling and to help teach our students about conservation. presented. | | |

 | Your Kerr Library has undergone some exciting changes over the summer! Our new look resembles a storybook forest; complete with fresh paint, new carpet and trees. In addition to our new look, we’ve added some great new titles.
Currently, we’re gearing up for the Battle of the Books; orientation for fourth and fifth graders is on September 10. More information will be sent home soon.
We’d love to see your smiling face; the library is always looking for volunteers! Whether your talent lies in shelving, labeling, organizing or being a guest reader, we’d love to have you. Contact Brandie or Mary Ann in the library for more information. 412-967-2493 or email:

| When it comes to technology, there are three words that describe the happenings at Kerr: exciting, new, and innovative. For the 2008/2009, we have added a brand new computer lab equipped with Apple computers and a SmartBoard. The second lab will be open to students and teachers to use throughout the school day. In addition to the new lab, our old computer lab was updated to the new Leopard operating system. With the addition of a Macbook cart last year, Kerr students will have the opportunity to use these state of the art machines as powerful educational tools. Students K-5 will be learning computer basics, keyboarding, word processing/presentation software and Internet research/safety skills. They will also be developing and creating multimedia projects using Apple's iLife and iWorks.
KerrKast, our monthly podcast, is in its third year of existence. To date we have created and published over 22 shows. Our goal is to produce Podcasts that highlight all of the great things that are happening at Kerr Elementary. Our Podcast are a great way for students, parents, teachers and community members to quickly catch up with Kerr’s daily happenings. We are very proud of our accomplishments. Nationally, there are only a handful of schools producing Podcasts. We take pride in being a pioneer in the Podcast Education Field and aim to the push boundaries again this year.
