Welcome to the TEAM
Dear Hartwood Parents/Guardians and Students: I would like to welcome you to the 2008-09 school year. I welcome back our current first, second, third, fourth and fifth grade families and also extend a special welcome to the newest members to Hartwood Elementary School, our kindergarten families. I hope that you all have had a pleasant summer and that you are enjoying the remaining days of the summer vacation. This year, classes will begin for students on Monday, August 25, 2008. As parents, stay involved with your son’s/daughter's education throughout the school year. Communication is an essential component of a truly successful school/parent partnership. I encourage you to establish positive communication with your child's teachers. Please feel free to contact the school at any time should you have any questions or concerns. We appreciate your feedback. Also, please check our school's web site regularly. Our school calendar will be posted there as well as important announcements. This year, the theme for Hartwood Elementary School is “TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More”. Each month a “Hartwood Character Trait” will be featured throughout the school and in the respective classrooms. Please ask your son/daughter to share this information with you at the end of each school
day. Information about our theme will also appear on each monthly calendar posted on the website. As a reminder to parents, similar to last year, in order to enhance our school's security, at the beginning of classes each day, all doors to the outside will be locked during the day with the exception of the front doors. Upon entering the building, I ask that you stop at the secretary’s desk, sign in and obtain a visitor's pass. Also, please sign out at the secretary’s desk prior to your departure. I appreciate your cooperation. I personally look forward to working with you this school year!

Field Day 2008 We couldn't have asked for a better day for Field Day 2008. The weather was perfect and we had so many wonderful games and activities to share with our friends, teachers and family members. The PTO organized Field Day with a carnival theme this year that had us playing games, obstacle courses, the big jumpy inflatable, and we even a DJ too. If the popcorn wasn't enough, we were lucky to have sno-cones and even a misting machine to cool us off. The day ended with the yearly 5th grade vs. teachers kickball game. The game ended in a tie 5-5. Take a few minutes to view some of the more than 900 digital images from the day. Thanks go out to the mom and dad volunteers for their time and photos.
