Fundraising for the Victims of Haiti |
As many of you already know, the devastation incurred by Haiti on January 12, 2010, as a result of a magnitude 7.0 earthquake has hit a critical level. We at Kerr Elementary School have always stepped up to help anyone in need, whether in our own community or in another part of the world. Our Kerr Elementary School staff, along with our Kerr Student Council, have come up with some fundraising events for our students and staff.
Listed are the dates of the events:
- February 1-5 Pencil Week .25 per pencil- 8:30 - 9:00 a.m.
- February 5 Spirit Day! Wear a uniform and a hat/cap of your favorite team- .25
- February 8-12 Hearts for Haiti- .25 per heart. Hearts that are colored by students will be placed on a special bulletin board near the guidance office for presentation.
- February 19 Movie Night @ Kerr (Please view detailed information on page 4 of this newsletter).
- February 22-26 Someone is going to get pied...more info later

| My name is Mr. Michael Kestner, and I am taking this time to introduce myself as the new Safety Patrol Sponsor at Kerr Elementary School. I, along with the Kerr Site-Based Team’s approval, would like to highlight current bus and car arrival and departure procedures. These guidelines are designed to ensure the safety of our Kerr students as we continue to find ways to improve our procedures. It is imperative that you take time to review and become familiar with the new guidelines that are described below:

Kindergarten Registration/Parent Orientation |
Registration of children who will enter kindergarten in the fall of 2010 is scheduled in the Fox Chapel Area schools during the month of March. Orientation meetings to acquaint parents with the kindergarten program and registration process are also scheduled during March.
Children must be five years of age on or before September 1 to be admitted to kindergarten and age six by September 1 for first grade in the 2010-2011 school year. A certificate of birth date, immunization records, two proofs of residency, and a photo id must be presented for registration. A child will not be officially registered in the school until all of these items are presented. |

During the week of February 8th – 12th the children of Kerr Elementary School will participate in our annual Jump Rope for Heart event. During physical education class students will learn about heart health, helping community members in need, and engage in health-enhancing levels of physical activity. The American Heart Association hosts this event in thousands of elementary schools across the nation as a fundraiser. At Kerr, we are interested in raising funds for the American Heart Association to help those in need and ensuring our own heart-health, through physical activity. |
