Students Dance the Night Away By Krishna Hegde, Editor in Chief On Friday, May 14, more than 200 Fox Chapel Area High School students gathered in the Syria Mosque to participate in an annual rite of passage for most adolescents: the traditional High School Prom. Whether ruminating over potential dates or deciding on the perfect attire for the evening, the event proved to be one of the more dominant topics of conversation during May.
“My students couldn’t talk about anything else,” commented French teacher Mme. Montgomery. “After the college talk it was just about Prom!” Few could blame Fox Chapel students for attaching such significance to one night. | | Volleyball Makes Championships By James Santelli, Sports Editor
Fox Chapel boys’ volleyball is on a mission in the WPIAL Playoffs. They’re out to make their own legacy. The last time FC volleyball won a WPIAL championship was back in 2006.
The current senior class was still attending Dorseyville Middle School back then, and with dominant frontcourt and a solid rotation in the backcourt, the 2010 team is determined to earn its own hardware. The road to the WPIAL semifinals for FC was not smoothly its fair share of struggles through the month of April, marked by a non-section loss to Ambridge on April 23.
| | Students' Talents Dazzle Crowd By Katie Fustich, Contributing Writer “What! Why would you even bother going to that?” one of my friends asked me on the afternoon of Monday, April 19th. She was referring to, of course, that evening’s event: FC’s Got Talent. “You realize that it’s going to be the exact same thing as the Battle of the Bands?” she continued. Fortunately, her accusations were wrong and the night proved to be an exciting collection of varied performances from all over the musical spectrum.
The performances did have its fair share of typical bands but also had some unique acts, such as a live art performance, several dance solos, and a comedy routine. FC’s Got Talent was anything but another Battle of the Bands. In the front of the auditorium sat the panel of judges: a KDKA newsman named Dennis Bowman, a talent agent, and Randy Mallinger, a randomly selected student who just happened to be wearing a suit that night.
