First grade multimedia/research projects.

Students in Mr. Jones’ Grade 1 Accelerated Reading class read “This Is the Way We Go to School, A Book About Children Around the World”, by Edith Baer.  The story takes readers on a journey around the world, celebrating the many different ways children travel to the classroom. After reading, the students researched the country, region, or culture of one of the groups in the text ultimately creating a Keynote presentation, complete with their recorded voices, highlighting their cultural research. The Rainbow People and 4C's Nursery Rhymes

Image

Mrs. Bucelli's frienship group put on a play the teaches children tolerance and how to deal with bullying.  “The Rainbow People” is a play about the common needs of all people.  In the play, the red, blue, orange and yellow people stop at the house of the purple person because they are thirsty, hungry, and tired.  The purple person does not allow these people into her home because they look different to her.   After the purple person’s house is destroyed by a storm, she is graciously welcomed into the green person’s home and meets up with the other rainbow people. Finally, the purple person learns that everyone is the same, regardless of their outward appearance.  She also understands the importance of acceptance and friendship.

Principal for the Day at Hartwood Elementary

Image

Ms. Megan Botos

Ms. Megan Botos, a fourth grade student, was the principal at Hartwood Elementary School on Friday, May 1, 2009.  Megan gained this honorary position as a result of a Teacup Auction held by the PTO at their annual Spring Extravaganza in March.

Ms. Botos had a busy day that included such activities as visiting all the classrooms, reading to the first grade, working with kindergarten, checking on the students in the cafeteria, and making sure the daily routine of the school was operating efficiently.  She made the day for many students by providing a memo to classroom teachers for the distribution of homework passes.

Dr. Rauzan enjoyed being the Assistant Principal to a delightful and talented young lady for the day!
