There is an interesting art project going on at DMS. 8th grade students and teacher, Mrs. Cheryl Etters, have created a sculpture installation out of recycled plastic! Mrs. Etters wanted her students to experience creating site-specific artwork and to conquer the challenge of using untraditional materials. In keeping with the core value of responsibility, students used plastic bottles and other plastic items that would have normally been discarded. Plastic bottles were collected from staff members and students during lunch periods over a three-week span at DMS. All of the collected plastic was used to create an entire underwater scene complete with a lobster, seahorse, octopus, mermaid, fish and many other sea creatures. These artworks will be installed in the courtyard at DMS beginning in mid April for all to enjoy. Other land creatures will also be on display throughout the building. This project is an excellent example of creativity in environmental responsibility. Click here for pictures! |
