DMS Honored by Schools to Watch Program

Dorseyville Middle School in the Fox Chapel Area School District is one of only four Pennsylvania schools to be named a 2010 PA Don Eichorn Schools:  "Schools to Watch" (PA STW) as part of a recognition program developed by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform.  As a Schools to Watch school, Dorseyville joins a very select group of 15 schools in Pennsylvania named within the last three years, and more than 200 around the nation that have qualified as Schools to Watch.

Each school was selected by state leaders for academic excellence, responsiveness to the needs and interests of young adolescents, and commitment to helping all students achieve at high levels.  In addition, each school has strong leadership, teachers who work together to improve curriculum and instruction, and a commitment to assessment and accountability to bring about continuous improvement.

District Gala

Our community is coming together for one of the year’s most talked-about events. We anticipate that more than 1000 community members will join us at the Heinz Field ballroom for Dancin’ in the Endzone!

For our first ever cooperative districtwide fundraiser, to be held May 1, 2010, we’ve engaged the support of dozens of community leaders, including PTO and PTA officers and representatives. Plans for the evening include food and drinks, a Motown band, auctions and a raffle.

Proceeds will benefit the Dorseyville Middle School Challenge Technology Fund and initiatives of the PTA/PTO organizations at each building in the school district. We are committed to placing interactive technology in 50 core classrooms at the middle school level – a plan that will ensure Fox Chapel Area students have enhanced access to 21st century educational technology at all grade levels. The Board of School Directors has placed $100,000 in the budget in support of this initiative. Our challenge is to at least double that amount by raising matching funds through this event.

Most of all, this event is about bringing our communities, friends, and neighbors together to celebrate making a great school district even better!

We hope to see you there!  Visit the district web site for more information and how to order tickets.

We Can!

DMS is asking our entire Dorseyville Family to come together and help! We are sponsoring a "WE CAN Food Drive" to benefit our local food pantries.  We are asking students, staff, families and community to donate non-perishable and non expired items.  Students received a sheet outlining some of the most needed items.  If everyone donates at least one non-perishable item, think about the difference WE CAN make! The Food Drive runs until March 9th and we will deliver the collected donations to The Council of Three Rivers Food Bank in Dorseyville and St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank in Sharpsburg. The homebase that collects the most items will help box and deliver to the pantries.  We appreciate all of your help and support!  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
