The district technology department began the upgrade of the data infrastructure including wireless access points and servers (archiving, two document servers, and directory services) . Nick Townsend, with the student technology team, installed at the high school 26 new wireless access points and a wireless access controller. The access points that were in good working condition were moved to O’Hara to address problems in that building.
Next Steps:
-
•WLAN - Nick Townsend, the district network administrator, intends to replace all of the remaining 802.11b wireless access points in the high school with the new standard, 802.11n. A total of 30 new access points will be installed for 2009-2010. Nick plans to complete the upgrade at the high school and begin the upgrade for the middle school in 2009-2010. He will complete the rest of the district upgrade by 2011-2012.
-
•SIF - under the guidance of J.R. Deer the district will create a more transparent and interlinked data environment using the Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) that will link the district’s student information system (Star_Base) with other information systems that may include: the library system, transportation system, and RTI system.
-
•Network Servers - the district will add two additional document servers for high school students and a new SIF server. The district will replace four elementary document servers (one in each building), one communications server (voice mail and email) and one web server.
