High School Students Win Video Contest

Five Fox Chapel Area High School seniors were named the grand prize winners of the Pennsylvania Coalition for Representative Democracy (PennCORD) “Voting:  The Power of Your Voice” online video contest.  Fox Chapel Area’s grand prize winning group included Anders Bergren, Thanh Doan, Akansh Murthy, Alexander Radkoff, and Charles Wei

The purpose of the contest was to highlight the importance of civic engagement through voting.  The Fox Chapel Area seniors submitted a video entitled, “Voter vs. Non-Voter” which was a spoof of the Apple vs. PC commercials.  It depicts two high school-aged students, a voter and a non-voter, discussing the important issues facing the nation.  It also urged viewers to visit www.VotesPA.com to learn more about voting in the 2008 general election.  The statewide video contest was held to challenge Pennsylvania students in grade six and above to create a 30-to-60 second video that demonstrates how voting gives power to citizens’ voices and why it is important for them to exercise that power.
