Students Place in State-Qualifying Forensic Tournament
Thirteen Fox Chapel Area High School students recently placed in the Pennsylvania High School Speech League’s (PHSSL) District 2 state championship-qualifying tournament. Senior Ellen Pil won first place in Student Congress, the team of senior Jonathan Monroe and junior Sara Puthenpurayil won second place in Policy Debate, and freshman Rajeev Godse won second place in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. All four of these students qualified to represent the region at the PHSSL State Tournament. Additionally, the following students placed and will serve as alternates to the state championships: senior Mihir Garimella won third place in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, the team of freshmen Gavin Hitchens and William Wang won fourth place in policy debate, sophomore Diana Crookston won fourth place in Extemporaneous Speaking, and senior Madeleine Doerr won fifth place in Persuasive Speaking. The state tournament will be held March 17 & 18, 2017, at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania.
The following three students also placed at the tournament: the team of junior Eduardo Andujar and freshman Jackson Boychuk won fifth place in Public Forum; and junior Karissa Becer won sixth place and sophomore Adnan Mir won seventh place in Informative Speaking.
Approximately 165 students representing 16 high schools from across the region competed in the District 2 state-qualifying tournament. The tournament was held February 25 at Pine-Richland High School.
