Time to Be First Scholarship |
 First Commonwealth is pleased to announce the 2nd annual “Time To Be
First” Athletic Scholarship program for western and central Pennsylvania
high school seniors scheduled to graduate in 2010. The First Commonwealth
“Time To Be First” Athletic Scholarship has been established in
conjunction with the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League
(WPIAL) as a means of recognizing and rewarding the work and efforts of
well-rounded students throughout our region. The scholarship program will
recognize student athletes demonstrating success in the classroom, the
community, and their athletic endeavors.

New Member of Hall of Fame |
|
Long-time Fox Chapel Area High School wrestling coach Ron Frank is being inducted into the Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Frank will be receiving a "Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award" at a banquet to be held at the Pittsburgh Marriott North in Cranberry Township. Frank, a Fox Chapel Area High School art teacher, was selected for this honor for many reasons, including the number of young lives he has influenced during those years, both in the field of wrestling and in his teaching position, and because of the outstanding tournament he runs each year (the Allegheny County High School Wrestling Championships).

In one of Fox Chapel Area High School’s best all-around athletic showings, the fall sports teams posted an impressive overall record of 109 wins and 29 losses. Eight out of 10 teams clinched section championship titles or were section runners up. Four teams advanced to the WPIAL playoffs, and three Foxes’ teams earned WPIAL runner-up titles.
Dance Team
The new Fox Chapel Area Dance Team’s goal is to increase spectator
participation and enthusiasm at sporting events. Coach Maureen Arend
believes the eight-member squad accomplished that mission at home
football games by energizing fans and taking school spirit to a new
level. The dance squad also performs at home basketball games.

Discounted Ticket Cards Are Available |
|
The Fox Chapel Area High School Athletic Department is offering a discounted ticket card for the 2009-2010 school year. The card will entitle the purchaser to attend any 10 Fox Chapel Area High School home athletic events during the 2009-2010 school year (with the exception of football).

Strong Showing by Wrestlers |

The WPIAL Class AAA Section 3 Championships were held at Fox Chapel Area High School on Saturday, and coach Ron Frank's squad had a strong showing as eight Foxes advanced to the WPIAL Southwest Regional championships.
The Foxes claimed a pair of section championships as Carson Brooks
decisioned Kevin Monper of North Allegheny, 2-1, to win the title at
130 pounds, and Dave DiBenedetto won a 5-1 decision over North
Allegheny's Alex DeCiantis at 152.
